Samburu National Reserve is a game reserve on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river in Kenya. On the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve. The park is 165 km² in size and is situated 350 kilometers from Nairobi. It ranges in altitude from 800 to 1230m above sea level. Geographically, it is located in Samburu County.

In the middle of the reserve, the Ewaso Ng’iro flows through doum palm groves and thick riverine forests. It provides water, without which the game in this arid region could not survive.

The Samburu National Reserve was one of the two areas in which conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness, made famous in the best-selling book and award-winning movie Born Free. The Elephant Watch Camp, of which Saba Douglas-Hamilton is the director, lies within the park.

The Samburu National Reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves.

Day 1 :

Nairobi - Samburu

Depart Nairobi in the morning and drive through central Kenya and north across the equator to Samburu National Reserve arriving Ashnil Samburu in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil. Meal plan: {L, D}

Day 2 :

Explore Samburu

Full day in Samburu, with an early morning and late afternoon game drive. Samburu is a beautiful and and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Gravy’s zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Optional activities include a visit to a local Samburu village, camel riding and guided nature and bird walks. All meals and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 3 :

Samburu - Mountain Lodge

Depart Samburu after breakfast and drive to the lower slopes of Mt. Kenya arriving Serena Mountain Lodge (tree hotel) in time for lunch. Relax in the afternoon as you watch game from the balcony of the lodge, with an optional guided nature walk. Overnight floodlit game viewing. Dinner and overnight at the tree hotel. Day 4 :

Mountain Lodge - Nakuru

Depart Mountain Lodge after breakfast and drive to the floor of The Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park making a brief stop at Nyahururu Thomson Falls and arriving Sarova Lion Hill Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drives in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx. 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild's giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game. Day 5 :

Lake Nakuru - Masai Mara

Depart Lake Nakuru in the morning and drive further along the floor of the Rift Valley to Maasai Mara Game Reserve, arriving Mara Serena Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 6 :

Exploring Masai Mara

Maasai Mara, Kenya's most popular game sanctuary where you will have the best opportunity of spotting the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant). Morning and afternoon game drives with an optional visit to a local Maasai village. All meals and overnight at Mara Serena Lodge. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 7 :

Masai Mara National Reserve

You will spend the whole day in the wild in hunt of wildlife, today is the day to look for the animals you missed the previous day, be it leopard which is rarely seen, we shall hunt till you see all the big 5

Day 8 :

Masai Mara - Nairobi

Depart Maasai Mara in the morning and drive back to Nairobi arriving approx 13:00hrs. Drop at The Stanley Hotel. Lunch on own account/afternoon at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel on Bed & Breakfast basis. Optional dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant.

Day 9 :

Nairobi - Amboseli

Depart Nairobi in the morning for Amboseli National Park arriving Amboseli Serena Lodge in time for lunch. The park is famous for its big game and great scenic beauty whose entire landscape is dominated by Mt Kilimanjaro. Afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 10 :

Amboseli National Park

Early morning pre-breakfast game drive at 6.30am, when you have the best chance to see the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro. Return to the lodge for late breakfast. The rest of the morning is at leisure. Afternoon game drive. All meals and overnight at Amboseli Serena Lodge. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 11 :

Amboseli - Lake Manyara

Depart Amboseli after breakfast and driving to Namanga (Kenya/Tanzania border) where you will change vehicle and driver/guide and proceed to Arusha for lunch at Impala Hotel. Then drive on to Lake Manyara National Park for dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. Meal plan: {B, L, D}

Day 12 :

Lake Manyara - Serengeti

Morning game drive in Manyara Park, a park dotted with exotic trees such as the giant fig, baobab and mahogany and whose inhabitants include the elephant, hippos, monkeys, tree climbing lions, buffalos, flamingos on the lake and other bird species.Lunch at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge, then depart for Serengeti National Park arriving Serengeti Serena Lodge for dinner and overnight. Day 13 :

Serengeti National Park

Spend the full day in Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives in the endless rolling grasslands for a chance to see the great herd of the migratory wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and the occasional prides of lions as well as numerous herds of elephants. Day 14 :

Serengeti National Park - Ngorngoro..

Another morning game drive in Serengeti, departing after lunch for Ngorongoro via Olduvai Gorge for a brief visit of the museum. This is the site of Louis and Mary Leakey's renowned archaelogical discoveries with findings including some of man's earliest known ancestral remains.Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Day 15 :

Ngorongoro

Today you will descend 600 meters to the floor of the crater for full day crater tour and game drives with picnic lunches. Explore the forest areas that are inhabited by monkeys and elephants, the lake area where you may see flamingos and the open savanna where the lions hunt for food. Other resident wildlife in the crater include elephants, warthogs, rhino, hippos and a variety of bird species. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. Day 16 :

Ngorongoro - Arusha

Depart Ngorongoro after breakfast and drive to Arusha. Lunch at Impala Hotel then to be assisted to board afternoon shuttle bus back to Nairobi arriving approx. 18:30hrs (a flying option is available). Drop at your hotel or at the airport for onward flight. End of our services. Meal Plan: {B, L}
